“One man’s faith allows him to eat everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” Romans 14: 2-4
I watch shows like Scandal and Real Housewives of Atlanta as strictly entertainment. We don’t want to be like those people for real; we don’t want that daily drama or people following us all the time. So for thirty minutes or an hour a few times a week we escape to a fantasy world and when the show’s over we return to our regular lives. A vacation of sorts, a window into a different world that we wouldn’t otherwise experience. I think it’s cool that I can watch shows like Scandal and RHOA and then talk to my friends about it. Make small talk; have something to relate to. I don’t want to be one of those out of touch Christians where if you don’t watch tele-churches all day we can’t be friends. I feel like relating to people on shows provides a window to talk about other things, even God. Crazy to think God could use convos about crazy shows to reach people. I think about Jesus and how He was friends with everybody.
“When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter. ‘He has gone to be the guest of a ‘sinner’ But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my processions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 19: 5-9
So I am at peace with my decision to watch Scandal and some other shows but I always tell my friends if I ever even come close to acting up call me out!
