10 Years Later

      The 10-year mark since my car accident and traumatic brain injury fell during my Tokyo trip and on the same day as the royal wedding but I would be remiss if I didn’t reflect on May 19, 2008, and how far I’ve come since then. I’m grateful for the life I’ve been able to live since May 19, 2008. I went from possibly not living to see my high school graduation to graduating high school on-time with my class, to graduating Magna Cum Laude from college, working for 4 years in local news production, completing 1 year of a top-tier full-time MBA program, and traveling the world along the way.  I speak a lot about my accident, so I’ll keep it short and reflect on 10 truths I’ve realized over the last 10 years:

1. It’s easy to focus on what you don’t have but time better spent to reflect on what you do have.
2. We’re always existing in two states at the same time; a place of gratitude for God’s past blessings and a state of anticipation for future promises He has shared with us.
3. It is better to live my truth than a lie with someone else.
4. Singlehood is lonely, but peace of mind is comforting.
5. God uses the unlikeliest people to move us through our journey and closer to our purposes.
6. There is victory, confidence, and joy on the other side of our comfort zones.
7. My transparency may help someone else find their truth.
8. Everyone doesn’t need to like me; God will surround me with the friendships and support I need.
9. It is so freeing to be yourself.
10. When you want to give up, know that there is purpose in your pain and other people’s blessings are attached to your perseverance and victory.
